Retford Civic Society was formed in November 1990 and started with this name but then alternated between Retford Civic Society and Retford Society until a final decision on name - and change to that registered with the Charity Commission - to Retford Civic Society was confirmed at the AGM in May, 2006.

For at least the 2023 Heritage Open Day, Rev. David Bean took on the role of Retford Town Crier. This is a role that has huge historical roots for which we haven’t time or space to invest in here.
