Sheffield city Region is one of the Governments latest ‘devolution’ initiatives.
As of June 2017, Bassetlaw District Council has decided to withdraw its application to become part of Sheffield City Region.
Bassetlaw District Council made a decision at their 17th March 2016 meeting to apply to become a full member of Sheffield City Region. Read their press release (that also figured in Clarborough & Welham Newsletter Summer 2016 issue - page 18).
In that same issue of our community Newsletter (page 19) your County Councillor, Liz Yates, had some concerns about these plans as soon as the press release had been published, but things have moved on...
Bassetlaw District Council (BDC) has released a leaflet that outlines what they see as the key benefits of joining Sheffield City Region.
BDC has also published a ‘have your say’ document with the hope that as many local people as possible will, quite literally, add their opinions to the current debate.
Finally, as the above document points out, two public meetings to discuss these proposals are scheduled:
Retford on Friday 22nd July at Retford Town Hall. This will include an open public session from 09:30-16:00 followed by a public meeting starting at 18:30.
Worksop on Monday 18th July - details to be announced.
